Angels on Bare Skin is an all-natural almond flour-based exfoliating and cleansing facial paste designed by Lush. If you would like to try making this wonderful product at home, here you can find an angels on bare skin recipe formulated taking into account both the doses of the original version and the preservation rules.
Analyzing the original INCI (Ground Almonds, Glycerine, Kaolin, Water (Aqua), Lavender Oil, Rose Absolute, Chamomile Blue Oil, Tagetes Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Lavender Flowers, Limonene, Linalool), you’ll see that ground almonds (exfoliating and gently cleansing) are in first place, followed by glycerin (moisturizing and preservative) and kaolin (soothing, sebum-absorbing, and cleansing). It also contains water (to bind the various ingredients together) and a range of soothing, antifungal and purifying essential oils, as well as lavender flowers for decoration.
As you may have noticed, glycerin is in second place, while water is at the bottom. The main reason for this choice is that the amount of glycerin must be at least 4 times that of water in order to preserve the product. Some homemade Angels of bare skin recipes found on the web do not take this fundamental factor into account, which is why they tend to rot quickly instead of lasting a month or more.
Of course, the INCI does not list the exact doses, but by taking into account the rules of shelf life, the properties of the various ingredients and their usual doses, it is possible to obtain a product that is quite similar to the original.
The essential oils used by Lush are chamomile, tagetes, benzoin and lavender. It is not necessary to use all of them, and in my version you’ll find benzoin and lavender only. If you do not already have tagets essential oil already, I would advise against buying it: I have it but it smells really nauseating to me, so that I decided to omit it. Instead of rose essence and water I’m using rose water.
This amazing paste gently cleanses and exfoliates your face and is suitable for combination and oily skin. However, keep in mind that exfoliants should be used in extreme moderation by those with particularly sensitive skin or too many pimples to avoid irritating or to open blackheads infecting the surrounding skin.
The product should be stored in a jar with a cap and away from moisture. Continue reading to discover my angels on bare skin recipe!
