The formulation highlights two exceptional ingredients: pequi oil and mango butter. Let's explore their remarkable benefits and see how they combine to create an effective and delightful aftersun solid lotion with only 7 ingredients.
Pequi Oil: A Hidden Treasure
Pequi oil (Caryocar Brasiliense Fruit Oil) is a recent discovery that has quickly become a favorite in my skincare formulations. Extracted from the seeds of the pequi fruit, this oil is rich in oleic acid, which is known for its regenerating properties and its ability to protect the skin barrier.
What sets pequi oil apart is its impressive antioxidant content. It’s packed with vitamins A and E, as well as zeaxanthin, a powerful carotenoid antioxidant. Zeaxanthin is particularly beneficial for its protective effects against UV radiation and oxidative damage, making pequi oil an excellent choice for aftersun products and summer skincare routines.
Beyond its skin benefits, pequi oil boasts a delightful tropical scent reminiscent of mango or other exotic fruits. This natural fragrance makes it a joy to use in cosmetic formulations, providing a sensory experience that complements its skin-healing properties.

Maximizing Pequi Oil's Scent: Tips for DIY Solid Lotions
When formulating a solid lotion, I usually include a generous amount of oils like fractionated coconut oil or coco-caprylate to achieve a lightweight texture. In this solid aftersun lotion recipe, however, I chose to use a minimal amount of jojoba oil and a higher concentration of pequi oil to fully capture its delightful natural scent. At this percentage (30%), pequi oil adds a subtle yet pleasant scent. Adding more additonal oils could dilute its intensity.
Pequi oil offers a discrete aroma. For those desiring a stronger scent, it pairs beautifully with citrus oils. However, keep in mind that citrus essential oils can cause photosensitivity, especially in summer products. If opting for them, consider using bergamot without furocoumarins, which is non-photosensitizing.
Mango Butter: The Perfect Companion
When I first encountered the scent of pequi oil, I immediately thought of pairing it with mango butter. Although mango butter doesn’t carry the fruity scent of its namesake, its properties perfectly complement pequi oil. Mango butter is renowned for its regenerating and anti-inflammatory qualities, making it an ideal ingredient for aftersun care.
